Opening a Child Care Centre
Opening a Child Care Centre
If you are thinking about opening a new licensed child care program please contact the Children’s Services Department for information related to funding availability and demand for child care in the desired location.
In Ontario, a license is required for any child care program that provides care to more than five children younger than 13 years old. The process to get a child care license takes approximately 4 to 6 months and depends on the time it takes to complete the Ministry of Education requirements.
Starting/opening a licensed child care centre
- To find out how to set up a licensed child care program in Ontario, including how to navigate the licensing system, prospective child care service providers can visit the Ministry of Education website.
- To support a child care program that is looking to design a new child care program, the Ministry has created Planning and Design Guidelines for Licensed Child Care.
After a child care program has become licensed, the program can then apply to have a service agreement with PELASS.
