Finding Child Care
Licensed child care for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarten and school-aged children is offered in community based centres, schools and homes across the region.
Types of Child Care
There are different types of child care from centre based care (daycare centres, nursery school programs, before and after school programs), Licensed Home Child Care, Unlicensed Home Child Care and Approved Recreation Programs. All licensed child care centres are governed by the Child Care and Early Years Act.
Licensed Centre-Based Child Care
Licensed child care centres can care for infants, toddlers, preschool and school aged children. Child care centres operate in a variety of locations including workplaces, community centres, schools and places of worship.
Licensed Home Child Care
A home child care provider that is overseen by a licensed agency can care for up to six children under the age of 13. Licensed home child care agencies provide professional development, support and monitoring for home child care providers.
Licensing reports for all home-based and centre-based licensed child care programs are available on the licensed child care finder.
